Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training

CPD is a requirement for all Class 1 & Class 2 licence holders in NSW, before 30th June annually.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an annual training requirement for all Certificate and Licence holders in the Real Estate industry (NSW).
  • The CPD year for all licence and certificate holders starts on 1 July each year and ends on 30 June the following year.
  • Unlike previous years, you are no longer able to complete CPD by online self-paced training.

CPD Obligations

NSW Fair Trading has changed the CPD obligation to be related to the industry role and licence you hold, below is more information of other CPD requirements.

  • Must complete a total of 5 hours of CPD training
  • 4 hours of interactive training delivered by an approved provider, covering 4 compulsory CPD topics.
  • In addition to the 4 hours for Class 1 & Class 2 (Residential Sales, Residential Property Management & Buyers Agents) above Stock & Station Agents will need to complete one additional unit.
    Live Online In-Person (via zoom) or In-Person (face to face)
  • You must complete your Interactive CPD training either: Live Online In-Person (via zoom) or In-Person (face to face).
  • Unlike previous years, you are no longer able to complete CPD by online self-paced training.
  • Additional Training for Class 1 Agents – In addition to your 7 hours above you are also being required to attend a (5 hour) NSW Fair Trading accredited forum.
  • If you have additional licence categories e.g, (stock and station, strata). You have additional CPD obligations click here to learn more.
  • This years CPD deadline is 30th June 2026

  • NSW Fair Trading requires all certificate /assistant agents to complete a minimum of three (3) licensing units each year towards the obligation of migrating to a full licence within four (4) years.
  • You must complete these licensing units prior to the annual cpd deadline of 30th June each year.

IMPORTANT CHANGES

Due to NSW Fair Trading’s yearly changes to CPD its important for agents to understand your current obligations.

The changes for the 2025 – 2026 CPD require agents to complete your CPD requirements related to both your class of licence and the area of role/work you do.

Don’t get caught out ensure you read below to meet your full CPD obligation.

NSW Fair Trading’s website states ” Failure to comply with your CPD requirements may result in the suspension or cancellation of your licence or certificate”

  • 7 hours of interactive training delivered by an approved provider, covering 4 compulsory CPD topics.
  • You must complete your Interactive CPD training either:
    Live Online In-Person (via zoom) or In-Person (face to face)
  • Unlike previous years, you are no longer able to complete CPD by online self-paced training.
  • Additional Training for Class 1 Agents – In addition to your 7 hours above you are also being required to attend a (5 hour) NSW Fair Trading accredited forum.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training also known as Compulsory CPD, is an annual obligation which is mandated by NSW Government under the licensing scheme. The government department that is in charge of mandating the obligation is NSW Fair Trading. The CPD framework has evolved over the past 23 years, and the obligations do change annually. It is important to understand your obligations as it is a licensing requirement.
