NSW Reforms

New South Wales property reforms were passed by parliament in March, and will come into effect in October later this year. These changes will be the biggest increase we have seen to education and qualifications in the past 20 years.

It is important to acknowledge that every person in our industry in New South Wales will be affected by these reforms. The changes vary depending on what qualification you hold and the role within your office. These changes will affect both existing licence and certificate holders as well as any new entrants to the industry.

While October may seem a while away, the time is now to prepare yourself for these changes. Through the reform, you may be required to complete some form of education or training prior to October to make the transition easier. If you don’t get organised prior, under the reforms, it will be harder to gain your real estate qualifications than it is now.

An overview of the reforms include the following:

  • Increased educational qualification requirements for new entrants
  • All certificate holders will have to migrate to a licence within four years
  • Restrictions on activities a certificate holder can complete
  • The creation of a new licence type for licensee in charge, with greater educational standards
  • Additional practical experience will be required on top of educational qualifications
  • A change to CPD which moves from points to hours based for licence and licensee holders.

We have created a series of videos to help you gain an understanding of these reforms, and what you will need to do pre and post the change. Watch the videos below:
